Release Date And Confirmed Platforms

GTA 6 was originally planned to launch in Fall 2025, then got pushed to May 26, 2026. Rockstar has since delayed it one more time, and the final GTA 6 release date is now November 19, 2026. Rockstar apologized for the extra wait and said the additional months will let them finish the game with the level of polish fans expect. Take-Two has repeatedly reaffirmed the date since, so this one looks like it's sticking.

As for the platforms, here's the big change: GTA 6 launches only on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no PC version at launch and Rockstar hasn't announced a PC release date at all. If history is anything to go by, PC players are in for a wait. GTA 5 took almost two years to arrive on PC, and Red Dead Redemption 2 took about a year. Most industry watchers expect a GTA 6 PC port sometime in 2027 or later, but that's a prediction, not an announcement.

With the size of the game, it's still unlikely that we'll be seeing this on the Nintendo Switch 2. And since there's no PC version yet, the minimum and recommended PC requirements remain unknown.

The Trailers So Far

Rockstar has released two official trailers to date. The first one dropped back in December 2023 and broke YouTube records overnight. The second trailer arrived on May 6, 2025, and it's the more revealing of the two. It opens with Jason picking Lucia up from prison and gives us a proper look at Vice City, the Keys, and several new characters. Rockstar also confirmed that Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game on a PS5, made up of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes, which says a lot about how the final game will actually look.

On June 18, 2026, Rockstar revealed the official cover art and a new logo alongside the pre-order announcement, plus the game's main theme. As for Trailer 3, there's no official date yet. Most projections point to late July or mid-August 2026, and it's expected to be story-heavy, possibly with our first glimpse of the HUD and voiced scenes. The wait for this trailer has more hype behind it than most full game releases.

GTA 6 Map: The State Of Leonida

One of the best things we know about the game is that we're making a return to Vice City. If you're not familiar, this GTA setting is based on Miami. This time around, Vice City is just one part of a much bigger picture: the entire fictional state of Leonida, Rockstar's take on Florida.

Rockstar has now officially confirmed six major regions in Leonida:

  • Vice City - the sun and fun capital of America, from the art deco hotels and white sands of Ocean Beach to the panaderias of Little Cuba and the VC Port, the cruise ship capital of the world.
  • Leonida Keys - a tropical archipelago inspired by the Florida Keys, known as the Gateway to Paradise. Boat parties, dive bars like The Rusty Anchor, and a rich underwater world to explore just off the shore.
  • Grassrivers - Rockstar's version of the Everglades. Swamps, mangroves, airboats, and gators. This is where the game's hunting and wildlife encounters live, and where the POACH wildlife organization operates.
  • Port Gellhorn - a fallen vacation spot on the west coast in stark decline, inspired by Panama City. The tourists are gone and the drug trade has firmly taken hold, so watch your back (and your wallet) if you venture here.
  • Ambrosia - an industrial town beside Lake Leonida built around the Allied Crystal sugar refinery, where the local biker gang enforces the rules. Don't step out of line here.
  • Mount Kalaga National Park - a huge wilderness forming the northern border of the state, home to what Rockstar calls hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals. Expect hunting, fishing, and off-road exploration.

How big is it all? The community's best estimates put the GTA 6 map at roughly 1.5 to 2 times the size of GTA 5's, and far denser. Where GTA 5 had long stretches of empty desert, Leonida looks packed with things to do across every biome.

There's also a fun bit of speculation worth flagging: license plates and road signs in the trailers reference a neighboring state called Gloriana, seemingly inspired by Georgia, bordering Mount Kalaga to the north. Whether you can actually travel there or it's just a lore reference remains unconfirmed.

Much of the finer map detail still comes from the community picking apart the trailers frame by frame. The biggest effort is the fan-run GTA VI Mapping project, a Discord community of over 13,000 members that has been reconstructing Leonida street by street since the 2022 leaks. You can join the GTA VI Mapping Discord to follow the detective work live, browse their community-built interactive map, or watch their Trailer 2 mapping breakdown on YouTube to see how they piece it all together. Their pre-release maps for GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 turned out shockingly accurate, so this is the closest thing to a real map you'll get before launch.

Here are a few things eagle-eyed players worked out from the original teaser trailer, which still hold up well against the official reveals.

Counties in GTA 6

  • Vice Dale County
    • Shown on sheriff's badge in Mega Noticias' newscast.
    • Likely represents Miami-Dade County, including Vice City and some nearby areas.

    • Likely tied to Monroe County.
    • Trailer shows road signs pointing from Vice City (southeast) toward southwest swampland.

  • NINE1NINE / E11EVEN
    • Plane banner shows "NINE1NINE."
    • Likely a nod to E11EVEN, Miami's 24/7 ultraclub.

    • Not directly shown in teaser but expected as a hangout location.
  • Basketball Arena / Kaseya Center
    • Seen in background while woman waves arms in trailer.

  • Twin-Tower Condo Block / 500 Brickell
    • Tall granite-and-glass twin condos recreated brick for brick.
    • Known real-world Miami landmark.

    • Infamous Miami strip club replicated in GTA 6.
    • Expected to be a standard GTA nightlife/business location.
  • Wetlands / Everglades (now officially Grassrivers)
    • Swampy southern Florida region replicated.
    • Airboat featured in trailer.
  • String of Islands / Florida Keys (now officially the Leonida Keys)
    • Part of Kelly County map.
    • Trailer shows Rockstar dedicating space to Florida Keys-like islands.
    • Won't extend a full 120 miles but includes a significant stretch of islands.
  • Broadcast Mast / WTVY Tower
    • Sunset scene shows large broadcast tower.
    • Based on real WTVY Tower, shifted into Leonard County.
  • Leonida Department of Corrections / Florida Department of Corrections
    • Lucia's prison intro scene.
    • LDC stands for Leonida Department of Corrections.
    • Location resembles desert-like Leonard County rather than swampy Kelly.
  • Port Gellhorn / Small Town Florida (now an officially confirmed region)
    • Scene shows Jason and Lucia in a dusty small town.
Pawn & Gun shop visible in background.
    • Several other towns included in Leonard County: Catalan Boulevard, Stockyard Downtown, Hamlet, and Waning Sands.

General Map Layout (based on official reveals and clues)

  • Southeast → Vice City and Vice Dale County.
  • South → Leonida Keys stretching across the islands.
  • Southwest → Grassrivers (Everglades-inspired wetlands).
  • West coast → Port Gellhorn.
  • Central → Ambrosia beside Lake Leonida.
  • North → Mount Kalaga National Park, bordering the (possibly visitable) state of Gloriana.
  • All regions form Leonida, Rockstar's fictional version of Florida.

FAQs

When is GTA 6 going to launch?

GTA 6 is confirmed to launch on November 19, 2026. The game will be available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. A PC version has not been announced yet, though one is widely expected to follow later, as was the case with GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Are GTA 6 pre-orders now up?

Yes. Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026 across the Rockstar Store, PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, and major retailers. There are two editions, Standard and Ultimate, and all pre-orders include the free Vintage Vice City Pack with retro '80s items for Jason and Lucia. One thing to keep in mind: the physical edition ships with a download code in the box, not a disc.

Will GTA 6 have online multiplayer?

Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 as a single-player experience at launch, and has acknowledged that an online component will continue with GTA 6. However, the studio hasn't detailed a standalone GTA 6 Online yet. Given that GTA Online became the financial backbone of GTA 5 for over a decade, expect Rockstar to reveal its plans closer to (or after) launch.
