Overview

Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy is a punishing climbing game, a homage to Jazzuo's 2002 B-Game classic 'Sexy Hiking.' You move the hammer with the mouse, and that’s all there is. With practice, you’ll be able to jump, swing, climb, and fly. Great mysteries and a wonderful reward await the master hikers who reach the top of the mountain. Created by Bennett Foddy, this title has become a cultural phenomenon, celebrated for its unique difficulty and philosophical commentary. It is a game about the frustration of failure, the joy of progress, and the resilience required to keep going when everything seems lost. Whether you are a seasoned gamer looking for a brutal test of skill or a newcomer intrigued by its infamy, the Standard Edition provides the full, uncompromising experience.

Key Features

  • Brutal Gameplay Loop: Experience a game designed to frustrate, challenge, and ultimately reward your persistence.
  • Unique Physics-Based Controls: Master the movement of the hammer using only your mouse for precise, difficult navigation.
  • Philosophical Commentary: Listen to Bennett Foddy’s insightful and often ironic narration as you climb.
  • High Stakes Progression: Risk losing hours of progress with a single slip, making every successful movement feel like a triumph.
  • Minimalist Aesthetic: Focus entirely on the climb with a stark, distraction-free environment.
  • Endless Replayability: Once you reach the summit, the game offers a unique reward that changes your perspective on the entire journey.
  • Steam Integration: Enjoy seamless installation and updates when you redeem your digital code on Steam.

Story and Gameplay

You play as Diogenes, a man trapped in a large metal cauldron, tasked with climbing a massive, jagged mountain of discarded objects and debris. There is no traditional story; instead, the narrative is woven through the act of climbing itself and the persistent voice of the developer, who discusses the nature of failure and frustration as you ascend. Gameplay is intentionally difficult, requiring extreme patience and fine motor control. There are no checkpoints; a single mistake can send you plummeting back to the very bottom, forcing you to reclaim the ground you fought so hard to conquer. It is a true test of character that transforms the screen into a mirror of your own determination.
