GTA 6 is getting closer, but Rockstar still has plenty of questions to answer about its multiplayer plans. One of the biggest is simple: will GTA 6 be crossplay?

Cross-platform multiplayer is common in major online games now, so players naturally want to know whether PS5 and Xbox users will be able to play together. For now, the answer depends on what Rockstar has actually confirmed rather than rumors or assumptions based on GTA Online.

This guide covers the official information available so far, what remains unknown, and which crossplay claims are still speculation. For release platforms, editions, and map details, see our GTA 6 Complete Guide.

What Rockstar Has Said About GTA 6 Crossplay

Rockstar has not announced crossplay for GTA 6 yet.

GTA 6 crossplay between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S

So far, the studio has confirmed a November 19, 2026 release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, along with details about the available editions and pre-loading. None of those announcements mention shared multiplayer lobbies between PlayStation and Xbox.

That leaves questions such as is GTA 6 going to be crossplay unanswered for now. Any post claiming that cross-platform multiplayer has already been confirmed is going beyond the information Rockstar has released.

More details could still arrive closer to launch, especially once Rockstar starts talking properly about GTA 6's online component. Until then, crossplay remains unconfirmed.

PS5 vs Xbox Series X: Cross-Platform Confirmed?

GTA 6 launches on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but that does not automatically mean players on those consoles will share the same online servers.

For now, Rockstar has not confirmed whether GTA 6 is cross platform between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no official information about shared lobbies, cross-platform matchmaking, or whether friends on different consoles will be able to play together.

That means anyone asking is GTA 6 gonna be cross platform will have to wait for Rockstar to reveal more about the game's multiplayer. The feature is possible, but there is nothing official yet to say it will be available at launch.

If you are already looking at game pre-orders, choose your platform based on where you expect to play rather than assuming PS5 and Xbox players will be able to meet online.

PC and GTA 6 Crossplay Chances

PC crossplay is a separate question because GTA 6 is not launching on PC alongside the console versions. Rockstar has only announced the November 19, 2026 release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, so PC players will not be part of any multiplayer setup at launch.

For more on the PC version itself, see our Will GTA 6 Come to PC article.

If GTA 6 does reach PC later, crossplay would still come with a few obvious problems. Mouse and keyboard can change how competitive gunfights feel compared with controller play, while cheating is usually a bigger concern on PC than on closed console platforms.

Rockstar could solve that with separate matchmaking pools or optional crossplay, but nothing like that has been announced yet.

Lessons From GTA 5 Crossplay History

GTA Online gives us some useful context because Rockstar has already explained how cross-network play works there.

GTA 5 crossplay history across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox

According to Rockstar Support, PC players can play together across different PC launchers, including Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, Epic Games Launcher, and the Xbox app on PC. Console players are kept separate from PC, and PlayStation and Xbox do not share GTA Online lobbies.

That does not tell us what Rockstar will do with GTA 6, but it does show that full console crossplay has never been part of GTA Online.

Final Verdict: Will GTA 6 Have Crossplay?

For now, the answer to will GTA 6 have crossplay is straightforward: Rockstar has not confirmed it.

There is currently no official information about shared PS5 and Xbox Series X|S lobbies, cross-platform progression, or any other multiplayer feature that would connect players across different systems. PC is also not part of the launch lineup, so any discussion about PC crossplay is even further from confirmation.

That leaves plenty of room for speculation, especially because crossplay has become common in large online games. Still, there is no basis yet for treating console-only crossplay, future PC support, or shared progression as planned features.

For players, the safest assumption is simple: buy GTA 6 on the platform where your friends are most likely to play. Until Rockstar confirms otherwise, there is no guarantee that players on different systems will be able to join the same multiplayer sessions.

If Rockstar announces cross-platform multiplayer later, this guide will need updating. Until then, crossplay should be treated as unconfirmed rather than expected.
