GTA 5 does not have one fixed price in 2026. What you pay depends on where you play and which version you buy. That makes how much does GTA 5 cost a less straightforward question than it first appears.
This guide compares the current prices across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, explains what you actually get with each version, and covers how GTA Online access fits into the cost. We will also look at where discounts usually appear and what to check before buying.
For the next game in the series, see our GTA 6 Complete Guide.
GTA 5 Price on Every Platform in 2026
On PlayStation and Xbox, the cross-gen version costs $39.99. You get the story campaign and GTA Online, with the PS5 release adding 4K support, 60 FPS modes, ray tracing, quicker loading, and DualSense support.
The Xbox version is also listed at $39.99, although sales can bring it down to around $19.99. Microsoft also sells a $49.99 bundle with a Great White Shark Card worth GTA$1,500,000.
On PC, the standard GTA V cost is $29.99 on Steam, Epic Games Store, and the Rockstar Games Launcher. The old standard PC edition has been replaced by the Premium Edition.
PC key stores often list GTA 5 below the standard $29.99 price.
GTA Online Included or Separate?
On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, GTA Online can be bought separately from the story mode. The standalone version costs $19.99 on both PlayStation Store and Xbox Store.

The full GTA V bundle costs $39.99 and includes both the single-player campaign and GTA Online. If you buy GTA Online on its own, story mode has to be purchased separately for another $19.99.
Current-gen versions also include the Career Builder, which gives new GTA Online characters GTA$4,000,000 to start with. Extra currency can be bought separately through GTA Online Shark Cards.Β
Standard vs Premium Edition: What You Pay For
On most digital storefronts, the old Standard Edition is no longer the version you are likely to see first. Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Edition has effectively become the more common package, combining the base game with extra GTA Online content from the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack.
That means you still get the full GTA 5 story mode and access to GTA Online, but the Premium Edition also gives new online players a head start. Rockstar values the included Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack at more than GTA$10,000,000 in in-game content, covering cash, properties, vehicles, weapons, and cosmetic extras.
- Bonus Cash: GTA$1,000,000 added to your Maze Bank account.
- Properties: Maze Bank West Executive Office, Paleto Forest Gunrunning Bunker, Senora Desert Counterfeit Cash Factory, Great Chaparral Biker Clubhouse, 1561 San Vitas Street Apartment, and a 10-car garage at 1337 Exceptionalists Way.
- 10 Vehicles: Dune FAV, Maibatsu Frogger, Enus Windsor, Obey Omnis, Coquette Classic, Turismo R, Pegassi Vortex, Huntley S, Western Zombie Chopper, and Banshee.
- Weapons and Outfits: Compact Grenade Launcher, Marksman Rifle, Compact Rifle, plus extra clothing and tattoos.
The practical difference is that Premium Edition gives you more to work with from the start in GTA Online instead of dropping you into the multiplayer side with only the base game. For players mainly interested in the story campaign, that extra content may be less important, but for anyone planning to spend time online, it adds a useful bundle of starter resources.
Discounted keys for GTA V Premium Edition (PC) and GTA V Premium Edition for Xbox can also bring the total price below the standard digital store listing, so it is worth comparing the package price rather than looking only at the edition name.
PC vs Console Pricing Compared
If you are checking how much is GTA 5 on Xbox, the $39.99 store price is only part of the cost. Online play on Xbox also requires an active Game Pass subscription, while PlayStation players need PlayStation Plus for GTA Online.
PC works differently. The GTA V PC price starts lower at $29.99, and GTA Online does not require a separate platform subscription.
PC key stores can push the price down further, so the PC version often ends up cheaper both at purchase and over time.
Which GTA 5 Version Is the Best Value?
For most buyers, the best value depends on where they plan to spend their time. PC usually has the lowest starting price and no separate subscription requirement for GTA Online, while console players pay more upfront and may also need PlayStation Plus or Game Pass for online access.

If GTA Online is the priority, Premium Edition gives new players more to start with through the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack. If you only want the story campaign, the extra online content is less useful, so the cheapest full version on your platform is usually the better buy.
Whichever version you choose, compare the current store price with available keys and bundles before paying full price. GTA 5 is old enough to go on sale regularly, and the difference between platforms can be large enough to make a quick price check worthwhile.
